Ebooks with Resell Rights

What are ebooks with resell rights?

When you start learning more about ebook publishing, you’ll probably begin to encounter issues of rights. Although author’s always have rights to the works they create, they can choose to give away or sell those rights in different capacities for marketing purposes or for income generating purposes. Ebooks with resell rights are just one example. However, to fully understand this issue we need to begin by comparing the different types of rights available so you can decide which the best choice for your needs is and then to discuss some of the advantages of ebooks with resell rights.

Types of Ebook Rights

In ebook publishing, you’ll find a wide range of terms that can be confusing if you’re new to the industry. Many of these terms center around the issue of authors’ and buyers’ rights. Understanding the terms is important so that you can maximize the value of any ebook publishing purchase you make. So let’s start by comparing the four primary terms you’re likely to encounter.

First, there are normal versus master resell rights. With normal resell rights, you are able to sell the ebook yourself. That means if you have a web site and you’re looking for products which can expand your existing catalog these ebooks can be made available to customers. Once you pay for the resell rights you can keep any of the money you make on those purchases. However, normal resell rights often come with stipulations. For example, you may be required to sell the ebook at a specific price so that you can’t undercut other people who have also purchased ebooks with resell rights from the same author.

Now master resell rights are a bit different. If you’re really looking for a way to open up your sales, these master resell rights are something to be on the lookout for. Basically, they work very much like traditional resell rights. However, you not only get the right to sell the ebooks but you can also sell the resell rights to your customers. That means you can sell the ebook or the right to sell the ebook or you can even sell the master resell rights to your customers. This can create a long chain of sales potential.

Besides these two types of resell rights, you’ll also find two other terms in the ebook publishing industry: private label and rebranding. Private label basically refers to any type of informational product which is purchased and which can be edited by the buyer then re-sold to the general public under the buyer’s name. Basically, you can purchase a private label ebook, slap your own name on the cover, and sell it as your own bona fide work of art. You can also make changes to the content as you see fit. In fact, you could rip the entire book apart and use the content for other purposes, including audio tapes, autoresponders, an e-course, a series of mini ebooks or reports, or even subscriber content.

Rebranding is a slightly different concept from the ones above. Instead of being a type of resell rights, this is an option you can purchase along with the resell rights in some cases. Basically, rebranding allows you to remove any links from the original author and to replace them with your own. That includes any links in the resource box. While this destroys the marketing ability of the ebook for the original seller, it’s good for you because it provides you with more marketing options and prevents your ebook from sending customers towards competitors.

Benefits of Resell Rights

As you might imagine there are plenty of excellent reasons to learn about resell rights and to make use of them in your own business. By buying resell rights to ebooks, you can start selling products immediately even as you are building your own ebooks or information products. That way your site can start bringing in a cash stream.

You can also use resell rights to make quite a bit of money on your own. If you have an ebook that has already run its course, for example, you can sell it to consumers along with the master resell rights for a good price. The money you receive from selling the rights can be used to finance your next ebook or information product.

Overall, if you’re going to be involved with ebooks making the most of these resell rights is going to be critical.
