Ebook Guides

Ebook Guides – You are not alone

Part of being successful in ebook publishing is learning what topics are going to sell well. Sometimes knowing this can be a bit more challenging than you might imagine. A sure bet might fall flat because of a lack of interest or because the topic has been covered in too many other books. However, there is one type of topic that almost always produces sales: easy to use guides. If you’re interested in jumping into ebook publishing, starting with ebook guides is going to be one of the best ways to make a name for yourself. Here are some tips to getting started.

Picking a Subject

While knowing you want to write ebook guides is the first part of the process, you need to narrow that choice down to a specific topic. One of the best types of topics is one that you already have a lot of knowledge on. For example, if you’ve worked in a certain career or if you have a specific hobby that would be interesting to other people, this information can make a great choice for a guide.

If you don’t have any expertise on any one topic, think about some topics you might be interested in researching. Do you have any interest in wedding planning? If so, you might want to choose to write a guide on how to plan a wedding. That’s just one possibility, of course. Maybe you’ve always wanted to learn how to build a doghouse. Instead of just learning yourself, learn so that you can share that information with readers.

Of course, you don’t want to base your subject decision solely on your own interests and/or expertise. Obviously those ebook guides will be easier to write but they may not have the large audience you want for your book. Another step is to do some research on the Internet and in forums to find out what people have questions about. When people have questions, they are going to need an ebook.

Starting to Write

Whether you’ve decided to write the book yourself or turn the task over to a talented ghostwriter, your next task is to do some research in order to prepare the topic. While you can find a great deal of information on the Internet, you need to realize that if you rely too much on online sources for research when you’re preparing your guide you’re really only offering readers something they could have found elsewhere.

The best idea is to supplement your online research with more traditional sources. For example, if you are writing an ebook on how to lose weight, you might want to read plenty of other books recommending other diets. You might sit in on some meetings for major weight loss programs, visit a gym, interview physicians and nutritionists, and talk to people who have lost weight or who are trying to lose weight.

If you’re worried that no one will want to talk to you, don’t be. Although not everyone will give you the green light, you might be surprised how many people would love to share their experiences or insight in your book. Plus, the interviews and other research are going to set your book apart from the competition with great research. And if you record those interviews you can later give them away as a freebie with your ebook package.

Remember to have anyone you interview sign a release allowing you to use their information and name in the book.

Finding Content

In addition to doing your own research, you should consider giving potential readers what they want to know. To do this, set up a website and ask people to submit their questions about the topic. You might even ask the people to provide you with their contact information along with their submission of a question.

Arrange the top 100 questions or so then have those be the basis of your content. For example, if you were writing an ebook on how to get a tattoo, you might have questions on how to choose a design, how to find an artist, how to choose a body location, or how to take care of the finished tattoo.

Then you can decide whether to organize the book’s content in a question and answer format or in a more traditional paragraph format. The choice will probably depend on how much information in addition to those questions you have to include in the manuscript. Make sure to arrange everything into chapters, too.
