Why Should You Publish An Ebook?

Before we answer the question “Why should you publish an ebook?” we need to look at the definition of an ebook.

An ebook is an electronic version of a book which is in digital format. The ebook can be downloaded to the computer or to any current handheld computers. The contents in the ebook can be read by using a software program.

For quite some time now, ebooks have been in circulation and there has been little knowledge about them. Currently, there has been an increase in the publication of ebooks.

You can publish your book, either in the traditional paper format or in an ebook format.

Now the question is, why publish an ebook and not the traditional print book? There are more advantages for the ebook than the traditional print book.

Nowadays, with the advancement in publishing technology, and desktop publishing systems, it is easier to self publish one's work than give it to established third-party publishers.

Ebooks are cheaper to produce in terms of cost than the traditional paper based books. Distribution costs are very low such that anyone can write and sell an ebook at a minimal cost. So with ebooks, it is easy for the small business person to gain a foothold in the publishing business.

The advantage of writing your own ebook is that you are responsible for the editorial content of the ebook.

It is very easy to sell ebooks. As a publisher, the market is world-wide with no exportation costs involved as the books are downloaded within minutes from the buyer’s computer! There are no shipping or packaging problems with the product. Indeed, with the case of traditional books, the cost of delivering the book to the customer can be very high.

The stages involved in producing ebooks are not so many as compared with paper based books. From the time the book is accepted by the publisher, in most cases it will take more than a year before one can start earning from it. The chances are, your book maybe rejected. However, with ebooks, you can never be rejected. You are the one who decides when to publish!

Once you have the print book published, it is never updated. This is not the case with ebooks. Updating is easy as there are no old versions to get rid of!

The buyer of an ebook enjoys other benefits as well. He can have as many ebooks as possible on his computer as against having several printed books in the library at home.

Unlike the print books, when reading the ebook the buyer can be able to adjust font sizes and any other features to suit his position. As for the reading of the ebook, he does not need to use costly paper if he so wishes. The book can be read right from his computer screen. It goes without saying that there are certain ebooks that can only be read on the computer without being printed.
