Ebook Readers Review - What Type of Ebook Reader Should You Buy?

Why do we need this Ebook Readers Review?

In the past there were only one or two Ebook readers on the market. Back then, selection of what type of an Ebook reader you wanted was not a big deal.

But things have changed now! See what is on the market…

Amazon Kindle

  • The first version was launched in November 2007. In February 2009, it was further improved into a slimmer device.
  • The Kindle 2 has 2-GB memory that can store about 1,500 books. It has a 6 inch display but no touch screen.
  • Transfer of PDF files to Kindle, wirelessly costs an additional 10 cents.
  • Kindle handles text, images, mp3, doc and HTML formats.
  • Features such as text-to-speech for books to be read aloud, and a basic web browser come with the Kindle.
  • The kindle costs US $360.00
  • The device is easy on the eyes and is good looking. It has wireless connectivity and downloading of ebooks is easy. It requires no syncing with your PC.
  • You can enjoy a wide selection of ebooks to choose from.

Disadvantages

  • The Amazon books cannot be read by any device, unless the Kindle.
  • You can read PDF files with the Kindle, but 10 cents per file is charged if you want to send them wirelessly.


Hanlin eReader

Hanlin e-reader is made by Tianjin Jinke Electronics based in China. It was released in October 2007. There are now several versions on the market and the average price is about US$299. Read More


STAReBook

  • STAReBOOK was launched in December 2006. The reader is the lightest and thinnest reader manufactured as at now. It weighs 176g and has the thickness of 8mm.
  • The reader has a storage capacity of 64MB memory. It has low power consumption. A charged battery will handle about 8000 pages.
  • The STAReBOOK has an in built MP3 play back which allows you to listen to the music as you are reading.
  • The screen of the reader is very small, 6” or 9cm by 12cm. The advanced screen of the reader makes reading of the ebook a pleasure. There is a facility for adjusting the font-size to suit your reading style. There are not more than 5 font sizes to choose from.

Disadvantages

  • Unfortunately this reader only supports books in the STK format.


COOL-ER ereader

The Ebook Readers review would not be complete without mentioning Cool-er ereader. This Reader is light, small and elegant. It has a range of readers in a rainbow of colors.

iRiver eBook Reader
